In 2005 the cost of heating went up drastically due to the oil costs. It hit us all very hard. We had bills for our propane the year before hit over $300.00 for one month. We knew that we would not be able to survive if it doubled in price as projected. We started to check into alternative heating. We found the Wood Pellet stove to be an interesting issue. In checking into it we found it is a very efficient way to heat your home. We purchased a Harmon. They are made now so you do not have to install a chimney. You do need to vent it to the outside. We had to make a six inch hole in the wall and run exhaust pipe out. But the whole unit takes up about three foot by three foot space in my living room. It also is right next to my television. The exterior does not get hot. Last year we spent less on the purchase of the unit and a ton of pellets than we would have in propane to heat the house for the season, so the unit has paid for itself already.
You can check out the different Harmon modles at:

We have a small house so we purchased the smallest unit they had at the time and at times I have to open some windows because it gets so warm in the house and we get some below 0 degree weather. I highly recommend a wood pellet stove to anyone who is looking for better answers to the rising cost of heating your home. There are less exspensive modles out there that are suitable units also so I suggest anyone interested shop around.
