I have been lucky though. My husband is 11 years older than I am so he gets to mosey on into senior life way before I do so that by the time it hits me I have lived with it for quite some time. I must say though that my husband has aged gracefully.
Your at home and one day you wake up and boom you are on all kinds of medications and take tons of vitamins that are actually prescribed by your doctor. And you are wondering where the hell all the time went and how it went so fast.
It is a big concern, future of our medical care with the issues of medical insurance in America today.
Trying to eat right and getting more and more into the growing organic craz. When I was young my grandparents had a garden every year. They knew what they needed to grow to make it to the next year. We then worked on “putting it up”. I mean, either canning it or freezing it. We also made lots of jelly. We hardly ever purchased fruit or vegetables from a grocery store. Now everyone is so dependent on what the grocery store has in it. I have been working on getting away from that and back to basics at home by gardening or going to a farmers market and only getting non perishables from the local supper market.
This year my husband helped me by setting up a container garden. He set up frames of about 3’ x 5’ and we filled them with top soil and fertilizer and boy did we get a great starter garden. We had 15 of the containers. I grew beet, peas, beans, cabbage, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, peppers and of course tomatoes. Now it is time to get ready for winter and cover the frames so they will be ready to use next year and this will cut down on all the weeds growing in the containers before you get a chance to plant too.
The weeding was amazingly easy and we live in what used to be a pasture lot for years. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to start gardening because you can do this in any size space. The fresh vegetables are well worth it.
Now that I am home bound I do a lot of shopping online. I did some price comparisons and sent for most of my seeds. I found a couple of the major seed companies were running out of seeds due to the amount of people that are going back to “backyard gardening” now. My advice is to shop early next year because I think it will be even worse.
