To say that Gary, my husband, is a healthy eater would not be referring to the quality of the food he eats. He can chow down. Gary has decided that it is time to go on a diet again. Now, I know that I am not the only one who has to deal with how child like men can be. I mean, the most awful time in the world is when he gets a cold or flu. My sons can be the same way. Not that I do not appreciate the situation and want to help but come on, if I acted like that I certainly would hear about it. I thought that way back when Gary and I first got together the quitting smoking thing was bad. Man, he was miserable.

The diet he has decided he responds best to is the low carb diet. So, yesterday we had to go to the store and stock up on “snacks” for the week. Well, just so you know, if I ate what he considers dieting snacks I would gain 30 pounds. But, he usually does well on this diet. It’s anyone around him that suffers. To say, “He can be grumpy” would be putting it very lightly.
Gary’s doctor suggested this low carb diet when he ended up in the hospital with heart attack symptoms a few years ago and they found his cholesterol was sky high. His doctor told him that he would get a faster response to lowering his cholesterol on this diet than on medications that have serious side effects. I was so scared. I thought this would kill him for sure, but, the doctor was right. His cholesterol went down and he lost weight. The doctor did not however have any advise on how to deal with him during this time.

While we were at the store I purchased along with his “snacks” a very large cast iron skilllet (they don’t dent so easy). Just kidding (one can dream though, right?).
Personally, I do better with the standard cut down on portions, low fat, healthy foods type diet. It doesn’t matter it seems we both just gain it all back sooner or later.
