Well, here in Upstate New York the summer camping season is over. The popular outdoor event now is a drive in the country to see the changes of the season. Mostly the changes in the colors of the trees called Fall Foliage changes here. It is truly beautiful but to some of us it is a little depressing at the same time. For me winter here is not so eventful. A lot of people have less mobility limitations and enjoy the winter sports here that are wonderful and a lot of fun. Skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and even ice fishing. My husband enjoys hunting and has a hunting camp with a small used (very used) older camper on it. He spends a couple of weeks there a year in the hunting season that starts in mid-November. Not my cup of tea. He has a propane heater and claims it is nice and warm but for some reason I just do not buy that. I have spent a weekend with some family at the hunting camp just before hunting season. Most of the time you spend inside the camper with a heater on. We have to go outside to the “blue boy” (outhouse) because the bathroom has been converted to a bed for more of the guys to have a place to sleep. Nope not for me. Especially since there was a black bear sited at the camp last year wandering through.
We have family and friends that camp with us at our seasonal camp. We are packing up supplies to take up to camp for the last weekend so we can do a kind of Pot Luck Dinner. We are taking the smoker and a turkey up and others will be bringing all the side dishes. It will be a great dinner. Any time we get together and do the dinners like this is a great time.
You really can’t call what we do camping. It is RVing. We have a lot of the at home amenities and are usually very comfortable. We do however, go a couple of times a year to do some real camping. We have a great tent and separate supplies for that type of camping. My husband just came home from a 4 day weekend fly-in trip with “just the guys”. They travel up to Long Lake and charter a small plane to take them back into the mountains. I mean really back into the mountains too. I have gone on these trips before too. It truly is beautiful. Anytime you have an opportunity to really enjoy nature, I say go for it! You will not be disappointed. Have you been on a trip like that, or do you have a favorite place to appreciate nature? Leave a comment and tell me about it.
