Did you know that because of the popularity of Camping in the State Parks, now we have to make a reservation months ahead. Here in New York we have to make a reservation nine months ahead of time for a site on a popular holiday weekend. If you do not then you may not get a site and you will not get a desired site.

Now we have to call Reserve America to make a reservation. You can not call the park to reserve a site anymore.

If you have the disability discount card you have to pay full price for the site and then wait for your money to be sent back to you. Last year after I completed my stay at a state park here in New York I returned the paperwork for my reimbursement on my discount and was sent a check in the mail about 3 months later that was from the bank of Canada. I find that pretty weird but who am I to question our government.

So if you are looking for a site for Memorial Day weekend 2010 and want to make a reservation for a state park you better get going they are filling up. I know of one park in particular that is just about full already.

Good luck and happy Camping. How is this working out in your state? Leave a comment and let me know.

Georgia does the same thing about camping in some areas. I’m not sure about the disable. Our trail ridding is being discoraged. We made some of the trails and are not allowed on the trails. They say the trails are becoming bad because of the horses and they relieve themselves on them. When the trails are washed out some we go a different way. In some instances we repair the trails. We have work days in our riding clubs and pickup cans, etc. after people that leave trash. We can only park in few locations, even if they are primitive areas. Activist groups are fighting our existence. We, also, can nolonger carry our pet (dogs) with us unless they are on a leash. Hunters that use dogs in the same area are allowed to let their dogs run loose. I’ve been riding for over 30 years. I have respect for our land. It does not belong to just a few groups. It belongs to God.

I agree with you. How can animals be bad for the trails? They are the natural ones. They did not leave the trash and cans. It is so hard to believe that some activist groups can have so much power. I wish you good luck on your trails and camping.
