A camping trip is a way to have enjoyable family time whether it is in a tent or RV or even in a trailer. A Winter camping trip takes different planning and considerations. Snowmobiling is a well loved winter activity that can be combined with the camping trip. Here in Upstate New York we have some private camping parks that allow the winter camping and some cater the snowmobiling enthusiasts. You will still need some of the basic supplies. Obviously the camping trip would be best in an RV or cabin.

1. You will need to have some type of heater. A small propane heater is a great heat source if you are not in an RV that has a furnace.
2. You will need to plan your attire to accommodate the weather conditions for snowmobiling comfort. A nice snowsuit is a great idea.
3. Do a meal plan. List all meals you will need for the camping trip. This will help you with a shopping list. Don’t forget the snacks.
4. Don’t forget the first aid kit. Check to make sure it is up to date and replace anything that needs it.
5. For snowmobiling, you will need trail maps. These are easily accessible online. For Upstate NY a good online link is: http://www.adirondacks.com/stlawsnowmobile.html .

Take your favorite camera because you will want pictures of this great outing. One thing to remember is that the biggest danger for snowmobiling is that some tend to go off the trails and this is where people get hurt. If you don’t know where you are then it is a good idea to go slow enough to get the feel of the land. Most snowmobiles are designed for speed and you miss the real fun of just being out in the outdoors and viewing the scenery. Take extra precautions and stay safe and make it the camping trip to remember.
