It is recommended that the Pellet Stoves get regular maintenance on them once a month. This means you need to shut them down and let them cool off and clean them out. This is by far the worst part of having a Wood Pellet Stove.
We chose a Harmon Wood Pellet Stove because when we researched the value of the different brands of stoves out at that time it seemed to give you the best value for your money. We have friends and family that do have other Wood Pellet Stoves that are very efficient and save them just as much money per month.
I think it just depends on what is available in your area as to how good a deal you can get on them. We did find very good deals on Wood Pellet Stoves last winter at the larger Hardware Stores.
Regardless of the brand you will still need to do the monthly maintenance. I did a couple of earlier posts; Getting the Wood Pellet Stove Ready for Winter and Wood Pellets-Stocking Up for Home. that you can check out. There are a couple more following this post in “Related Links” below.
I took pictures of my husband cleaning out our stove. He is very diligent on cleaning the stove regularly and tends to be a little early monthly. We love our stove and how much money it saves up every month so we tend to be overly careful with it.
The first thing you need to do is shut down the stove and let it cool off. After that, you will need to open up the top glass chamber and take out the upper guard. This guard is going to need to be scrapped and cleaned. As will all the inside of this chamber. Cleaning out all the ash and scrapping any buildup around the inside of the chamber.
We have come to realize that it does matter what quality the pellets you buy are. It is better to maybe pay a little more for the better pellets and have a better burning pellet with less build up and clean up.

You will need to try different brands to find out which is best for your stove. Because even though they may be marked a “Premium Pellet” this is not always the case.
Once you have thoroughly cleaned and scrapped the inside of the upper chamber you will need to vacuum it out too. This will give you a clearer picture of how well it is scrapped and cleaned.
Once you have cleaned out the upper chamber you will need to remove the Ash Catch Drawer. Once this is removed you will see a fan towards the back. This will need to be cleaned out and vacuumed.
Once all of this is done my husband cleans the inside of the glass door with a decreasing cleaner.

Then you lite the stove back up and you are back in business.
