Hello, my name is Caroline Fay. I am middle aged, happily married and living in Upstate New York. Our kids are grown and have wonderful families of their own.
About five years ago I found out I have a rare disease, Myasthenia Gravis, that is affecting my eye sight. I had a great career and loved my job but have since lost that because the disease has left me legally blind.
My husband will be 65 next year.
Being home bound has made quite a change in my very busy life. Here is the ironic part, my job was taking care of disabled. I loved my job and I loved the people I helped. Now I am the one dependent on others. But I am lucky. I have great love and support from my family. Most of the people I took care of were not so lucky.
So, now I write about the things “At Home” that I deal with on a daily basis. I surf the internet to read articles and reviews from anyone who I can relate to or is doing some of the things I am into here at home. There are lots of topics here, from home improvements to wine or beer making, canning or freezing, making my own cheese, candy and other cooking, crafts, gardening, budgeting, work at home, the topics are endless.
My son just got back safely from his tour of duty for one year in Afghanistan and now has been informed that he will have to return in 2011 for another year. That was a horrible year. We sure hope things change there before his time for him to go again.
The national medical insurance issue is a huge concern for us. Now that we are older and with my illness being controlled by medication we really can’t go with out medical insurance.
Family issues are always there too as they are for everyone. Our kids are grown and have families of their own but as we all know the worries don’t stop there. Between Gary and I there are seven kids altogether, we have, his, mine and ours and then there are the wonderful grandchildren. Gary is now a very proud great grandparent. I will have to do some kind of photo gallery at some point.
We currently live in Upstate New York. Where the weather is always a concern here. We are coming up on another winter and we all hope it will be a light one but it almost always isn’t. Being in a rural area the roads are treacherous here and every winter there are serious accidents. I am not a supper religious person but I do pray for my family because every year something serious happens somewhere around our friends or family no matter how careful you try to be.
I love my computer and the internet. I spend a lot of my time on it. I have been trying to find some income opportunities that are not a scam but that is another endless project. The work-at-home scams are unbelievably abundant. I try to keep outside contact through Instant Messaging and forums and social sites. It helps me to feel I am not so alone at times.
